Biz Markie, the rapper behind the 1989 hit “Only a Buddy,” died at age 57 on Friday, July 16, E! Information confirms.
“It’s with profound disappointment that we announce, this night, along with his spouse Tara by his facet, Hip Hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully handed away,” his spokesperson informed E! Information in a press release on July 16.
“We’re grateful for the numerous calls and prayers of help that we’ve obtained throughout this tough time,” the assertion went on. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that may without end be celebrated by his trade friends and his beloved followers whose lives he was in a position to contact via music, spanning over 35 years.”
He is survived by his spouse of over 15 years, in addition to his members of the family and shut mates, “who will miss his vibrant character, fixed jokes and frequent banter,” per his rep. “We respectfully request privateness for his household as they mourn their beloved one.”
A household supply informed TMZ that Biz died at a hospital in Baltimore, Md., following issues with diabetes.
